US-based electronics manufacturer Jabil, a key supplier for Apple, is set to build a new manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu with an investment of approximately ₹2,000 crore ($238.2 million).
Located near Tiruchirapalli (Trichy), this new facility is expected to create around 5,000 jobs.
Jabil Expands in India
The agreement for this major project was signed in Chicago, and Tamil Nadu’s Minister of Industries, T R B Rajaa, confirmed the news on social media.
This investment is part of Apple’s strategy to diversify its supply chain beyond China, with India becoming a crucial manufacturing hub for the tech giant.
Matt Crowley, Jabil’s Executive Vice President for Global Business Units, highlighted India’s growing importance. “India is emerging as a key manufacturing hub,” Crowley said. “
Our expansion here will help us meet future customer needs and complement our existing facility in Pune.”
Tamil Nadu’s Growing Electronics Hub
Jabil’s new plant adds to Tamil Nadu’s status as a major electronics manufacturing center.
The state already hosts several major Apple suppliers, including Foxconn, Pegatron, Tata Electronics, and Corning.
Additionally, Tamil Nadu has signed agreements with Rockwell Automation and Autodesk to further boost its manufacturing capabilities.
The new facility in Tiruchirapalli marks the beginning of a new electronics cluster in the region, similar to existing ones in Sriperumbudur and Hosur.
Tamil Nadu’s strong infrastructure, skilled workforce, and supportive government policies make it an appealing destination for global manufacturers.

India’s Growing Role in Global Supply Chains
India’s role as a key player in global manufacturing, particularly in electronics, is growing.
Companies like Apple are diversifying their supply chains, with Jabil’s new plant serving not only Apple but also other major tech companies such as Cisco and HP.
This strengthens India’s position in global electronics manufacturing.
Apple has been expanding its supplier base in India, including plans to increase production capacity for its products like the iPhone.
The Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes are actively promoting the country as a global manufacturing hub.
Conclusion
Jabil’s ₹2,000 crore investment in Tamil Nadu represents a significant milestone for India’s rise as a global manufacturing leader.
The new plant will create 5,000 jobs and establish a new electronics cluster in Tiruchirapalli, positively impacting the state’s industrial development.
As global companies like Jabil and Apple strengthen their presence in India, the country’s role in global supply chains will continue to grow.
