Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-Founder and CEO of Ola, discussed plans to boost electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing in India.
This conversation comes at a key moment as the EV industry in India is growing quickly.
Electric Vehicle Manufacturing:
India’s market for electric vehicles is expanding fast, with more than 1.2 million EVs sold in 2023, which is a 70% increase from the previous year.
Ola Electric, a major player in this market, is setting big goals. The company wants to raise its production from 1 million units a year to 2.5 million units by 2025.
They are investing ₹7,500 crore (about $900 million) to build new factories and develop new EV models.
This includes a new, affordable electric scooter that could help more people switch to electric vehicles.
Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC):
The meeting also covered the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a new government project aimed at making online shopping easier for everyone.
ONDC wants to create a fairer digital marketplace where all businesses, big and small, can compete.
Since it started in 2022, ONDC has brought on over 1,000 sellers and plans to add 30 million more by 2025.
This could change the way people shop online, giving consumers more options and helping smaller businesses grow.
Looking Ahead:
Both Piyush Goyal and Bhavish Aggarwal are excited about the future. Expanding EV manufacturing will help reduce pollution and support cleaner transportation.
At the same time, ONDC aims to make online shopping more accessible and fair for everyone.
This meeting shows the commitment of both the government and industry leaders to support India’s growth in technology and sustainability, paving the way for a greener and more inclusive future.
