Wings EV is set to launch Robin, India’s first electric micro-car, in Bengaluru in April 2025.
This small two-seater car combines the easy handling of a motorbike with the comfort and safety of a car, making it perfect for busy city streets.
Founded by Pranav Dandekar and his father Prakash Dandekar, Wings EV aims to change city travel with a small, eco-friendly car that is easy to park, cost-effective to run, and affordable for everyday commuters.
Robin addresses common city problems like pollution, traffic jams, and parking shortages while providing a smooth and safe driving experience.
Key Features and Pricing
Robin will be available in three variants to cater to different budgets and requirements:
- Basic Model: Priced at ₹2 lakh, offering a 65 km range per charge, without air conditioning.
- Mid Variant: At ₹2.5 lakh, this version includes air conditioning and extends the range to 90 kilometers per charge.
- Premium Variant: The top model, priced at ₹3 lakh, offers air conditioning, a 90 km range, and advanced safety features like patented audio alerts for added protection.
Safety and Technology
Robin has successfully passed stringent safety tests conducted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in Pune, ensuring it meets all required safety standards.
The vehicle’s innovative drive-by-wire system—typically found in aircraft—offers enhanced control, making it easier to handle on busy streets.
Robin is also designed to climb slopes of up to 12 degrees, exceeding standard requirements and making it well-suited for India’s urban landscapes.
Production and Sales Strategy
Wings EV plans to produce 10,000 units annually at their Indore factory, with an initial goal of selling 3,000 units in the first year.
Following its launch in Bengaluru, Wings EV plans to expand Robin’s availability to other key cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune later in 2025.
Market Research and Expansion
Before launching Robin, Wings EV conducted extensive market research across six Indian cities and organized over 300 test drives in Bengaluru to gather feedback and fine-tune the vehicle.
Backed by investors such as Venture Highway and angel investors from Silicon Valley, the company is well-positioned to scale up its production and marketing efforts.
Vision for the Future
As India sells over 18 million two-wheelers annually, Wings EV envisions a future where compact electric microcars like Robin become the norm for urban transportation.
Pranav Dandekar, CTO of Wings EV, believes that the introduction of Robin will help reshape the Indian electric vehicle market by offering an affordable and practical solution for city commuters.
The Rise of Electric Microcars
Electric microcars are gaining popularity for their ability to reduce traffic congestion, lower emissions, and make parking easier in busy urban areas.
Robin is part of this growing trend, with a design emphasizing safety, comfort, and sustainability.
With the ability to drive up to 90 kilometers on a single charge, Robin is an excellent fit for short city commutes, while its competitive pricing makes it accessible to a wider audience.
